What is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)?

Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) are nationally-recognized food and nutrition experts who are uniquely qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy for specific disease conditions and general nutrition counseling for optimal health. RDN's have met the following academic and professional requirements:

  • Completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree at a US regionally accredited university or college and course work accredited or approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Completed an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program at a health-care facility, community agency, foodservice corporation often combined with undergraduate or graduate studies. Typically, a practice program will run 6 - 12 months in length.
  • Passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). For more information regarding the examination, refer to CDR’s website at www.cdrnet.org.
  • Completed continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration.

Only an RDN is accredited and recognized by the US Government to provide nutrition services that are eligible for insurance reimbursement under the current health care laws.

Simply put, RDNs are the nationally recognized nutrition professionals!

What is a Health and Wellness Coach?

“Coaching is the process of bringing out the greatness of people. It begins with a desire on the part of the client to accomplish, have, or experience something. The coach inspires the client to accomplish the desired result through personalized teaching, expanding awareness, and designing environments.” — Dave Buck, The Language of Coaching, 2004

Health and Wellness Coaches are credentialed health, fitness, and mental health professionals (including dietitians, physical therapists, nurses, physicians, and behavioral health therapists) who combine evidence-based approaches for behavior change with their expert knowledge to assist their patients/clients to manage medical conditions and optimize all areas of well-being (physical activity, nutrition, weight, stress, and life satisfaction). Health and Wellness coaches are trained practitioners of coaching psychology. Coaching psychology integrates the theories of positive psychology (the scientific study of happiness and well-being) into evidence-based methods for facilitating behavior change.

What are your fees and does insurance cover my visit?

We are in-network with Aetna Healthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield. However, many PPO plans offer out-of-network benefits that may reimburse you for nutrition counseling from a RDN of your choice even if you do not have Aetna or Blue Cross. Coverage and reimbursement will depend on several factors including your specific plan benefits, medical diagnosis, and if your coaching session is in-person or video chat.

Please contact us HERE for questions about individual and package fees, insurance, and payment policies.
